Offered by: homeschooling parent Sean
Class 1 of 2: Introduction to the ideas of concrete music, including sound objects, cinema for the ear, sonic ecology, soundscape, timbral shapes, recording, sound editing, etc. I will bring in some sound-creating objects and give a demonstration of recording them and arranging them to make a demonstration piece. I will also play some examples of concrete music. Children will be asked to spend the week thinking about sound in the environment and finding objects that can make different types of sounds (sustained, short, "grainy", etc) to bring in for the next class, on October 22. (FYI: Danny will be doing a workshop called "Making rudimentary musical instruments" on Tuesday Oct 19, as possible sound objects...)
