Offered by: homeschoolers Rina and RowenaTogether we'll make a litmus indicator out of the juice from cooked red cabbage and use it to test various liquids to see how acid or alkaline they are, as well as seeing what happens when we mix different types of liquids with each other. We'll also use the indicator to make litmus paper and use this to test other types of substances.

Participants will develop critical thinking and communication skills as they contemplate and discuss abstract topics such as friendship, responsibility and happiness. The perspective of several philosophers will be presented and discussed. McCarty has used this format with children as young as 5, so this group will be open to all participants.

Archaeological dig at the Lachine Museum

Wednesday September 15th, from 1 to 4pm at the Lachine Museum - 1 chemin du Musée, Lachine (see map below). All activities are FREE : ) -- (Was reschedule from Sept 8)The bigger kids (aged about 6-13) will be guided through a simulated archaeological dig on the museum grounds. We have done it for the last two years and it was good fun! See pictures here (you have to be logged on).The little kids (under 6) will get a guided tour of the Maison Leber-Lemoyne - over 400 objects that depict the everyday lives of the Maison's occupants from 1669 onwards. Then they will do an activity called Défi-sculpture - a tour of the outdoor contemporary sculptures and then collectively building their own sculpture.

Each class will include about 10 minutes of lecture, followed by a hands-on experiment which follows the scientific method and a brief recap of our findings. Older students may choose to complete a laboratory workbook (available for purchase from www.gravitaspublications.com), while younger students and others may participate orally. This course was designed for the K-3 level and is open to children 5 and up.
